Brittany Robinson – MassMEP Employee Highlights
MassMEP has a new Human Resources Coordinator. Brittany Robinson is enthusiastic as she describes what she does in her role. “I am currently a huge part of the onboarding and working with the new hires. In addition to that, there is a lot of organizing due to COVID – not being in the office there is a lot of filing to do with the extra virtual paperwork that I’ve been helping out with for my boss. The onboarding is huge because we are doing so much hiring right now. I help new hires to feel comfortable, welcoming them and informing them of the benefits here. I’ve been getting the company handbooks together and helping them become fully aware of what we have to offer them. That’s been my biggest project so far. I’ve also been working with our new Director of Finance with regards to payroll.”
Brittany has a fun story that she shares about finding her way to MassMEP. “Originally I applied through Indeed for the Administrative Coordinator position. I went through all the interviews and talked to the people in charge of that department. I had been doing a job search for a while, so I was very excited to get a phone call. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the admin position but was offered the HR Coordinator position, which I’m thrilled about. Previously I was in account management in manufacturing and worked in a leading manufacturing company, so the admin coordinator position was pretty much what I knew. I worked at Hutchinson Aerospace and loved my job there – it was so much fun. In between Hutchinson and MassMEP I worked for my dad’s pinball business, helping him out. At the beginning of the year, we were trying to find a house, so I jumped back into the job market. I’ve never done human resources, but I’m thrilled to learn this position and hopefully I’m doing it well.”
With her upbeat and positive outlook, Brittany talks about what she loves about her job. “My passion is learning new things. Everyone always knows who HR is. Learning the behind-the-scenes things, there’s so much to it. For example, I’ve been learning the laws and regulations and making sure we have the right posters and all about that’s entailed when hiring a new person. Its not just that interview – it’s so much more, like learning how employers look at a resume. I knew what I was doing every day at Hutchinson – go in, do this, do that, talk to this person. What I’m discovering is that in HR anything could change at any moment. I love it!”
“Outside of work, my favorite thing to do is working with my dad with the pinball stuff. It’s something we bond on. Its so geeky! We go to the conventions and shows, travel up and down the east coast, to refurbish the pinball machines. We’re on the road to Pennsylvania at 6 AM to go to a convention or going to someone’s house to pick up a pinball machine that’s been abandoned for years. We bring it home, open it up and chop it up, and see how we can make it LED. It’s like the geek squad and it’s what we enjoy doing together. I love that connection that we still have through pinballs.”
