SECRETS, ADVICE, AND WARNINGS FROM THE REGION’S BEST TRAINERS
Even if you hire employees with all the right experience and potential, getting them on board for the specific new job you’re assigning them to, whether a front line machinist or a top level thought leader, takes strategy, execution, philosophy and decreasing the risk of a failed hire. Tonight we hear from a few people who train people in Western Mass organizations, that will give you a fascinating look at how they get their workforce rowing together, hitting the ground running, and shooting straight. Our speakers will include:
- Matthew F. Moriarty, Captain of the Holyoke Police Department, will discuss training practices of the Holyoke Police Department and how Officers are training for the new millennium..
- Erin Pirro, of Farm Credit East (a specialized lender and consulting agency for agriculture, commercial fishing, and forestry) on her strategies for training millenials, the generation that are either lazy, entitled job-hoppers, or innovative, balanced, adaptable geniuses, depending on your prejudices.
- Rick Roso of Lime Rock Drivers Club, in Salisbury, CT, in on how race car driving is teachable, like any sport; on the biggest errors drivers make (ie: “where you look is where you go”) and what you must do both in driving and in business (ie: “keep your eyes up”) plus a few things to make you a better winter driver, in general (ie: how to control what the tires are doing)
- Susan Janus, who teachesĀ Training Within Industry, a method originally developed by the U.S. War Department in 1940, to efficiently ramp up to produce munitions for WW2; TWI is the forerunner to Lean and Kaizen; and has now evolved to focus also on employee engagement and idea gathering.
- Jane Pearson of Whole Foods describes how they build self-directed teams that celbrate their successes and take responsibility for their failures; appreciate effort and reward results.
