Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) Workshop
The Massachusetts Development Corporation (Mass Development) received a grant from the federal Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) to identify and address some of the key issues facing SBIR/ DOD funded companies who are in need of assistance/support with their technology transition. This transition is often referred to as SBIR "Valley of Death”. One such issue is understanding how Design for Manufacturing (and Assembly) or DFMA, when introduced early on in the development and ultimately increase the likelihood of a successful transition. The MassMEP and Greentown Labs would like to invite you to a free (grant supported) two-day workshop that will focus on
1. Reducing Product and Life Cycle Costs
2. Improving Quality and Reliability
3. Speeding Time to Market
Dates: October 5 & 6, 2016
Time: 8:00am – 5:00pm
Location: Greentown Labs 28 Dane St. Somerville, MA 02143
Description: The DFMA¨ Workshop has been developed for design engineers, manufacturing engineers, cost estimators, commodity managers, and others interested in the design & production of high value products. The goal of the DFMA¨ Workshop is to demonstrate how proper consideration of part manufacturing and assembly early in the product design stage can considerably improve the overall economics and efficiency of the value stream. The course will thoroughly discuss product simplification techniques and the associated part cost estimating techniques required to make good, data-based design decisions. Participants will also see how part cost estimates evolve into "should cost” estimates enabling data-based supply chain negotiations.
