MassMEP CEO Kathie Mahoney Joins American Small Manufacturers Coalition Board of Directors

Kathie Mahoney, President

November 28, 2022 – Auburn, MA – MassMEP, the Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kathie Mahoney, CEO/President, to the Board of Directors of the American Small Manufacturers Coalition (ASMC). ASMC advocates for legislative and programmatic resources that allow small manufacturers to better compete in the global marketplace.

“Manufacturing is the lifeblood of the U.S. economy,” said Ms. Mahoney. “In 2021, manufacturing businesses generated 10.7% of U.S. economic output and employed nearly 9% of the U.S. workforce. 98% of American manufacturing companies are small businesses and over 75% of those have fewer than 20 employees.”

She continued, “While small manufacturers are an important economic engine, they face a disproportionate share of challenges. The ASMC is focused on the important work of advocating for small manufacturers and obtaining the resources they need to be competitive, such as finding and training a skilled workforce, maintaining critical supply chain partners, improving product quality, embracing digital transformation, and moving to more sustainable production models. This perfectly aligns with our work at MassMEP and provides me with an opportunity to have a greater impact at the National level.”

“We are excited to have Kathie join the ASMC Board,” said Carrie Hines, President & CEO, ASMC. “She is a next generation leader among her peers throughout the National MEP Network where she serves on the National Institutes of Standards and Technology MEP Center Leadership Team. She has an unparalleled knowledge of the MEP Center Network and a wealth of institutional knowledge from her 20+ year tenure with MassMEP.”

The ASMC and its members advocate for small manufacturers by increasing awareness of the importance of American small manufacturers, the challenges they face, and the federal legislation and programs that affect them. The program of primary focus is the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).
