Emma Mailman – MassMEP Employee Highlights
Emma Mailman is MassMEP’s new Marketing Coordinator. She is in charge of managing our social media platform, for example: YouTube, Instagram, Twitter. Facebook, and LinkedIn. Emma says, “There are a lot of activities and learning insights, as well as lots of ins and outs of how to direct social media correctly. In addition to the social media, I also help manage all MassMEP’s events. I work closely with Hayley on that, thank gosh. She helps me out a lot. Since I’m new there’s a lot of information thrown at me, so really it helps a lot that I’m part of such a great team.”
Emma shares, “I just turned 23, today is actually my birthday. So as far as career path goes, before this job I was a student. I just came right out of college and am still a student now. I’m finishing up my MBA in summer semester one at Assumption University where I also did my undergrad in Management. In February of my senior year, I reached out to Kristy. I knew her because I had coached her daughter for about a year prior. When I was coming up to graduation, I was telling everyone that I was open to jobs and open minded about opportunities, so any suggestion or openings to please send them my way. Kristy called me to tell me about the Marketing Coordinator position. Knowing Kristy, I had to jump on it because who wouldn’t want to work for Kristy. When the position posted, I applied, everything worked out and here I am at MassMEP.”
Talking about her work with social media, Emma continues, “Social media is complex. It’s simplified in our social lives away from work, and it’s really easy to manage on a personal level. But working for a company you have to learn how to gain all the insights and engagements, so it’s a learning process for me. I had a little bit of exposure and experience with social media and marketing under my management undergrad, and I continue to learn as I go.”
“My favorite part of the job is that not only do I get to work as part of a team in the Marketing group, but I also get to interact with people outside the company. That was really important to me when I was looking for a job. I’m someone who loves to make new connections and meet new people. I’m very outgoing, and meeting new faces is something that I enjoy. Through MassMEP you’re constantly connected with people across the state and that’s something that really draws me in. That’s a passion of mine – to keep making new connections and meeting new people and have an impact on those that I do cross paths with.”
Emma continues to speak with passion about what her life looks like away from the job. “Outside of work, my biggest passion is coaching. I love working with kids of all ages, but my favorite group is high school age kids. I love working with that age group because it is such a complex time in their lives. Being a coach is really rewarding – making a connection with someone and having, not just them look up to you, but you look up to them. Coaching is a partnership. There are a lot of things I am teaching them, but in reverse I think there are a lot of things they are teaching me about myself. Overall, I think it allows me to be a better person and gain some perspective – I love it – its new with every person. I love the connection, there’s nothing better. As an athlete myself I played through college. So I think it’s rewarding to go to their high school games where I also used to play, like at Wachusett, or surrounding towns. But seeing them coming to my games and getting engaged with my team at college shows them that there’s a continued path as an athlete. Being a woman there are a lot of opportunities coming up in sports right now. Showing them if I can do it then you can do it – everyone is equal, there’s a platform for it. If you choose whatever direction you want go in, there are a lot of different opportunities for people to engage in if they want to continue in sports after high school.”
Emma concludes, “I was 7 years old when I first participated on my first club team. I still speak with my club coaches from when I was 7 and up on almost on a daily basis. I’m still really involved in the clubs that I used to play for. It’s just those relationships – they carry on through everything. Kristy’s a great example. First I knew her as a coach and now I know her as the boss. So it translates – people get to see you in different fields and you never really know what’s to come of it.”
How well do you know Emma? Two of these statements are true and one is not. Can you guess which one?

2) I started my own personal training business and have been involved in that for a couple of years.
3) I speak German and American Sign Language.
