We’re introducing five more MassMEP members whose products and capabilities show the variety of manufacturing happening across Massachusetts.
So far, we’ve featured everything from food products and playing cards to precision components, cargo parachutes, and architectural woodwork. In Part 3, we’re taking a closer look at packaging, gummy manufacturing, locks and keys, industrial hose assemblies, and precision machining.
Packaging That Goes Beyond the Box
Have you ever wondered how products are packaged, protected, and prepared for shipping?
Accutech Packaging operates manufacturing and distribution facilities in Foxborough and Mansfield, producing a range of packaging products and equipment.
Its capabilities include plastic thermoforming, printed folding cartons, paper mailers, specialty envelopes, and automated packaging systems. The company also produces specialized cold-chain packaging, including gel trays and vial carriers designed to help protect temperature-sensitive products in the life sciences industry.
Accutech’s packaging solutions serve applications ranging from e-commerce fulfillment to biotechnology and pharmaceutical shipping.
A package may look simple when it arrives at your door, but the packaging itself can involve a surprising amount of manufacturing.
Simplifying Confectionery Production
Producing chewy candy on a commercial scale involves several steps before the finished product reaches the shelf.
Based in Northampton, Melt-to-Make manufactures ready-to-use gelatin and pectin bases for confectionery and food manufacturers.
The company also offers natural flavors and colors, giving manufacturers options for developing their confectionery products.
Using a prepared base helps simplify production by reducing the steps involved in traditional confectionery manufacturing. It also provides a consistent starting point, helping manufacturers maintain quality across production batches.
That piece of chewy candy you enjoy starts with a manufacturing process most consumers never think about.
Behind the Locks and Keys
Keys are something most of us use without giving much thought to how they’re made.
Founded in 1963 and based in Hudson, Hudson Lock manufactures locks, key blanks, key-cutting machines, and locksmith tools through its Hudson, HPC, and ESP product lines.
Its products include cabinet and cam locks, specialty locking products, key duplication equipment, and tools used by professional locksmiths.
The company supplies products used in applications ranging from office furniture and cabinets to security systems and locksmith operations.
From securing a cabinet to making a spare key, these are products that help keep everyday things accessible and secure.
Keeping Materials Moving
Industrial hoses do much more than carry water.
Founded in 1962, McGill Hose & Coupling is a family-owned company headquartered in East Longmeadow, with additional facilities in Woburn and Rhode Island.
The company manufactures and fabricates custom hose assemblies and supplies fittings and fluid-handling components. Its capabilities include metal hose fabrication, hydraulic and rubber hose assemblies, PTFE hose assemblies, tube bending, and pressure testing.
McGill serves industries including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, marine, and transportation. Its products help transfer liquids and other materials through equipment and industrial systems.
Behind many manufacturing processes are the hoses and connections that keep materials flowing where they need to go.
Precision Behind the Finished Product
Some manufactured components are so specialized that most people will never see them outside the equipment where they’re used.
Located in Marlborough, Bristol Precision manufactures precision-machined components for the medical, aerospace, defense, research, and commercial industries.
The company specializes in CNC machining, producing prototypes and small-batch components using milling and mill-turn equipment. Its capabilities also include custom tooling, inspection, and part marking.
These manufacturing processes allow Bristol Precision to produce complex parts to detailed specifications for applications where accuracy and consistency are important.
A finished medical device or piece of sophisticated equipment may contain numerous precision components, each manufactured to perform a specific function.
More Made in Massachusetts
Packaging, gummy production, security products, industrial hoses, and precision machining may seem unrelated, but each plays a role in products and systems we rely on. These five MassMEP members offer another look at the range of manufacturing taking place across Massachusetts.
We’ll be back with Part 4 of our Made in Massachusetts series, featuring five more MassMEP members and the products they manufacture.
