Two Generations, One Goal: A Family’s Journey Through MACWIC and MassMEP Training

At MassMEP, we take pride in helping manufacturers strengthen their workforce, and sometimes that impact goes beyond the shop floor. This year’s MACWIC graduation ceremony at Franklin Tech highlighted a powerful story of family, legacy, and lifelong learning: a father and daughter, both growing their skills and careers through MassMEP training.

Jamie, a dedicated employee of NE-XT (formerly Valley Steel Stamp, Inc.), has spent 22 years building a career in manufacturing. His philosophy is rooted in the value of hands-on work and its power to provide a rewarding and sustainable livelihood. “Producing something with your own hands,” Jamie says, “has been a great and rewarding way to make a living.” It’s a lesson he has passed on to his children, inspiring his daughter to explore manufacturing through Franklin Tech and MassMEP’s MACWIC programs.

Now a newly promoted Product Line Supervisor, Jamie is embracing his next challenge: leadership. He is currently enrolled in MassMEP’s Frontline Supervisor curriculum, where he is honing his ability to mentor others, manage production, and share his technical expertise. “It’s never too late to learn,” Jamie reflects. “I’m at a point in my life where I need to pass on what I know. The training I’m in is helping me with that.”

At home, Jamie continues to encourage his daughter to explore new opportunities, combining her artistic nature with practical skills. “Kids don’t always know what they want to do, but I want her to see that making something with your hands can lead to a fulfilling and stable life,” he says. “She can be a machinist, a designer, or an engineer—the possibilities are endless.”

Jamie is candid about his own nerves when it comes to learning new things but hopes to lead by example. “I’ve always been afraid to learn new things, but I’m grateful for these opportunities. She may not appreciate it now, but every chance she has to learn will pay off later.”

This family’s journey is a testament to the power of manufacturing education. With programs offered through Franklin Tech, MACWIC, and MassMEP, both father and daughter are gaining new skills, building confidence, and shaping a bright future.

Two generations. One goal. Endless possibilities.
